School’s out for summer! Are you still looking for a great Jewish summer experience for your child? What about spending time at camp? What about spending time at camp AND receiving up to $1,000 in a first time camper grant?
Here are 7 great reasons to send your child to Kalsman this summer, including how to apply for a One Happy Camper grant for Summer 2013:
7. This is a great time of year for a hike! Your camper can explore the trails of Camp Kalsman, trekking around Butterfly Lake or up the mountain. They’ll learn about teva (nature) while picking berries, supporting friends with cheers, and hanging with their counselors.
6. We have 13 Israeli staff members who came to Arlington just to spend a summer with your child. They come from all over Israel and have a huge range of experiences, from time spent in the IDF to time at other Jewish summer camps to semesters spent at NFTY-EIE High School in Israel. Your camper can make pita and hummus, sing Hatikvah (the Israeli National Anthem) and learn a few Hebrew words and phrases. Sababa!
5. Where else can your child spend a week or more with other Jewish children while getting to climb a 50-foot Alpine Tower and say the shehecheyanu when they reach the top (or the middle, or even just put one foot on the tower for the first time)? Where else can they help plant a 10,000 square foot garden or do T’filah in a canoe on Butterfly Lake with their entire cabin? Only at Camp Kalsman!
4. Your camper will be a part of our fantastic mitzvah project, Two Tons Together, where we are working to donate 1 ton of food grown fresh here on camp and 1 ton of non-perishable food donated by camp families and staff. We can’t think of many better ways to learn about mitzvot and tikkun olam than planting and harvesting food for those in need.
3. One of our favorite hash tags on Twitter is #campfriendsarethebestfriends. We love it so much because it’s true! Our campers start building community from the moment they step on camp. It’s laughter, cheers, and hugs from day one!
2. The Camp Kalsman staff is spectacular. Right now, our staff is busy getting camp ready for our first session of campers who arrive Sunday. We’ve taken swim tests, swung on the swing, and learned to canoe (I know, I know, how did I not already know how to do that!?). We built some pretty spectacular rafts as we learned about pikuach nefesh, planted seeds in our gorgeous garden, and got to work planning some awesome evening programs. Kibbutz night anyone? We’ve been working and learning together all week and are ready to show you what we’ve got! Helping new campers make friends? We’ve got that covered. Keeping kids safe, happy and healthy? Check! Building a kehillah kedoshah, holy community? No problem!
We are ready for your child to be our camper!
1. And to top it all off, the Jewish Federation of Seattle and the Foundation for Jewish Camp has an additional $20,000 in One Happy Camper grants they want to give to YOU!
